Cadbury eggs in a Donut nest!

April 10, 2019

Donuts+Mini cadburys=HEAVEN

FUN FACTS ABOUT ME:

I love donuts
I love mini cadbury eggs

{I love lots of other foods that are bad for me, but we’ll focus on these two for now}

So why not put them together, and make one of the best breakfast items known to (wo)man?!!! And also, let’s be honest, these could be a dessert as well, based on sugar content, ovbi 🙂 And these couldn’t be easier to make…everything can be purchased from the closest grocery store, and from start to finish, we’re talking less than 20 minutes to complete!

Ingredient List:

    • Donuts
    • Powdered sugar
    • Milk
    • Vanilla extract
    • Coconut
  • Mini cadbury eggs

Start by toasting the coconut, because nests are typically not white! I cooked the sweetened coconut at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes. I wanted it nice and brown to resemble twigs more than anything, but watch it very closely because it will burn in an instant! I did add a bit of the untoasted coconut to the mixture after it came out of the oven to add some dimension to the color. Now, if you’re one of those crazy people who HATES coconut, I can’t help ya?! It’s one of my most FAVORITE flavors! Pretty please, I beg you to try it toasted, and change your mind 😉

I like my coconut TOASTY!

While that’s taking place, make the donut glaze by combining one cup of powdered sugar with two tablespoons of milk (I used 1% because that’s all I had). You may need a bit more milk, but go slow because it doesn’t take a lot of milk to make it too runny. But don’t fret if it gets too runny; just add more powdered sugar! Finish it off with 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and set aside!

I just HAD to taste test, for yall, of course! QUALITY CONTROL 😉

I used plain cake donuts for mine because they hold up to dipping really well! Dip the top of the donut in the glaze, going about a third of the way down the donut. Then dip it in the coconut mixture, making sure all of the glaze is covered. Add five or six mini cadbury eggs to the middle and voila! You have an Easter treat, perfect for any time of day, but would be precious on a breakfast/brunch tablescape!

I put the donuts on a blue cake stand that I had from the cakery, that I bought at Home Goods years ago, and it made the perfect robins egg blue display platter!

Pretty cake stands make me happy!

    About Me

    Hey Peeps!

I'm Miranda, and I'm formerly lots of things (I sold dumpsters, fro-yo, and car parts to name a few), but most recently I was a cakery owner of Got What It Cakes. I'm a mom of two daughters whom I call my "minis,” and the wife to Joshua, whom I call "Stud" (yes, he's even in my phone under that name). Most days you can find me oversharing about my insane life on my InstaStories, in a segment I call "carpool confessions." Follow along as I decide what to be when I grow up, while I navigate my other love, the queen city of Charlotte! I also tend to go by "Mayor Miranda," and am awaiting my key to the city ;) Read More
